Our Writing Curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, develop strong communication skills, and foster critical thinking in students from grades 1 to 8. Each unit is tailored to progressively build foundational writing skills, enhance storytelling abilities, and prepare students for academic success. Through engaging activities, practical exercises, and real-world applications, students will master the art of writing across various genres.
Introduction to Advanced Writing Concepts: Discussing more complex writing structures and styles, encouraging depth and maturity in written expression.
Expanding Vocabulary: Building a richer, more diverse vocabulary tailored to middle school level, including figurative language and domain-specific terms.
Advanced Grammar: Deepening understanding of grammar, focusing on complex sentence structures, verb tenses, and advanced parts of speech.
Developing Writing Styles: Exploring various writing styles including persuasive, argumentative, and reflective writing, along with continuing narrative and descriptive styles.
Research and Information Gathering: Teaching students how to research topics, evaluate sources, and integrate information into their writing.
Critical Thinking and Analysis in Writing: Encouraging students to develop critical thinking skills by analyzing texts and incorporating logical arguments in their writing.
Peer Review and Collaborative Writing: Fostering a community of writers where students critique each other's work and engage in collaborative writing projects.

Unit 1: Personal Narrative
Students learn to craft compelling stories about significant moments in their lives. By focusing on brainstorming, structuring narratives, and editing, they develop a personal voice while enhancing storytelling skills.
Unit 2: Voice & Tone
This unit helps students discover their unique writing style and understand how tone affects a reader’s experience. Students will distinguish between AI-generated and human writing and practice adapting tone for different audiences and purposes.
Unit 3: Fictional Narrative
Students explore the elements of fiction, including character development, conflict, and plot structure. They will map their stories using the Plot Rollercoaster and integrate real-world themes into their narratives.
Unit 4: Perspective Writing
In this unit, students reinterpret well-known stories from different perspectives. They will experiment with narrative voice and character development, creating new and imaginative story endings.
Unit 5: Biography Writing
Students research and write biographies, learning to gather information, organize it effectively, and present it in a structured format. They may interview family members or study historical figures to bring stories to life.
Unit 6: Persuasive Writing
This unit teaches students to construct and defend arguments with clear reasoning and evidence. They will engage in debates, write persuasive essays, and learn to critically analyze opposing viewpoints.
Unit 7: Identifying Literary Techniques
Students will recognize and apply literary devices such as similes, metaphors, and personification in their writing. They will analyze how these techniques enhance storytelling and practice incorporating them into their work.
Unit 8: Writing Analysis
Students will develop critical reading and analytical skills by examining texts for themes, characters, and literary techniques. They will learn to support their interpretations with textual evidence.
Unit 9: Expository Writing
Students will master the art of informative writing, structuring essays with clear introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions. They will conduct research to support their arguments and present factual information effectively.
Unit 10: Writers’ Resources
This unit equips students with tools for revising and editing their work. They will learn strategies to improve clarity, grammar, and sentence structure, ensuring their writing is polished and professional.
