Grammar Curriculum

Our comprehensive Grammar Curriculum is designed to build strong foundational language skills and advance students through increasingly complex grammatical concepts. Through interactive lessons, practical exercises, and creative writing tasks, students will master grammar essentials, improve sentence structure, and enhance their overall writing proficiency.


**1st-3rd Grade: Foundations of Grammar & Writing

In these early grades, students are introduced to the basic building blocks of grammar and sentence construction.
Focus Areas:

  • Punctuation Basics: Periods, commas, question marks, and exclamation marks.
  • Homophones & Homonyms: Understanding commonly confused words like to/too/two and sea/see.
  • Parts of Speech: Introduction to nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns.
  • Simple Sentence Structure: Subject and predicate recognition.
  • Sensory Details: Adding descriptive language to make writing more vivid.

**4th-5th Grade: Developing Grammatical Confidence

Students expand their understanding of grammar concepts, learning to write more complex and engaging sentences.
Focus Areas:

  • Advanced Punctuation: Apostrophes, colons, and semicolons.
  • Active & Passive Voice: Understanding how sentence structure impacts writing tone.
  • Verb Tenses & Past Participles: Using correct verb forms across different tenses.
  • Modifiers & Intensifiers: Strengthening descriptive language.
  • Sentence Structure: Introduction to independent and dependent clauses, and identifying run-on sentences.
  • Dialogue Writing: Crafting realistic conversations in stories.

**6th-8th Grade: Mastering Grammar for Effective Communication

Middle school students will tackle advanced grammar concepts, refining their writing for academic excellence and creative expression.
Focus Areas:

  • Complex Sentence Structures: Using parallel structure, direct/indirect objects, and varied sentence types.
  • Verb Moods & Verbals: Exploring subjunctive, indicative, and imperative moods.
  • Advanced Punctuation: Mastering ellipses, dashes, hyphens, and nuanced punctuation rules.
  • Independent & Dependent Clauses: Creating sophisticated, well-structured sentences.
  • Critical Writing Techniques: Using grammar to enhance persuasive and expository writing.
  • Grammar in Context: Applying learned concepts through literary analysis and writing projects.

Weekly Grammar Practice & Homework

Students will receive weekly grammar exercises tailored to their level, with real-world applications through engaging writing tasks and vocabulary building activities.
